Ypsilanti Neighborhood Highlights
Depot Town
Depot Town proper spans East Cross Street from the Huron River to North River Street. Nearby, enjoy trails, water, and outdoors at Riverside Park and Frog Island Park. Constructed mainly between 1850s-80s, these historic buildings tell a story. Find historical markers at Thompson Block, once used as a Barracks in the Civil War. Various signs can be found sharing information of Depot Town’s Past, including its underground Railroad ties. Today, the area is comprised of colorful buildings with restaurants, bars, and shops, and hosts several annual events.
Normal Park
Normal Park is located on the west side of Ypsilanti, covering the area bounded by Washtenaw Avenue on the north, Congress Street on the south, Mansfield Street on the west, and the west side of Summit Street on the east. Approximately 700 households are in the Normal Park neighborhood, all of which are automatically members of the neighborhood association. In this area, there are several cape cod and ranch stye homes.
College Heights
College Heights is family-friendly neighborhood on Eastern Michigan University’s east side. The area includes grand, pre-war houses of various styles. To the west are 1950s-60s ranches and split levels. Residents value Candy Cane Park, unique house styles, and well kept homes and gardens. Majestic flowering trees line the streets, where neighbors walk their dogs, garden, and socialize. Live within minutes of everything including Trinity Health Hospital nearby. This area remains one of Ypsilanti's most desirable neighborhoods.
Midtown/Downtown
The Midtown neighborhood is a collection of historic homes in the western part of the heart of downtown Ypsilanti. This neighborhood offers an eclectic mix of architectural styles and a mix of residents—married, partnered, single, families with children of all ages, students, professionals, people from all walks of life representing a wide variety of ethnic and social backgrounds. Coming together as neighbors, we are dedicated to maintaining and improving the quality of life in Midtown.
